EVENT LOG number 001
As your characters arrive to the hotel and check in at the front desk, they'll be handed a keycard for their room. If they're the type to linger or want to ask Mr Bennet questions, they'll be shooed off quite quickly by the hotel manager instead as today is a big day for the hotel.
"It's our grand opening," he explains. "Though, we were open beforehand just... now we're open to the multiverse! Isn't that wonderful?" Though he doesn't wait for a reply before moving on to the next guest in the queue and working to get their room next. Looks like they've been dismissed.
When they arrive to their room, they'll be greeted with a lush hotel room to their personal standards and quite ready to be enjoyed and lived in for the foreseeable future. On their pillow, will be a mint.
Or twelve mints.
Or half a mint?
For some people, there is just a note that says "sorry" and that's about it. Strange. Either way, they're free to have their mint(s) or not but it looks like they're not the only one settling into this strange hotel. Maybe they should strike up a conversation with another guest nearby after they've settled in? SPA DAY.
After a few days of settling in, characters will find themselves waking up one morning and greeted by a coupon sitting on their nightstand. The coupon reads: FREE SPA DAY and nothing else. Which is kind of funny since, well, isn't everything already free? Either way, if your character tries to figure out what this means and go down to the spa, they'll run into a very busy staff ready to attend to whoever comes visit the spa. There are a few options available but strangely enough, after your character participates... they may find a few side effects too.
For instance:
- Hot Tub: If your character visits the hot tub, they'll find themselves extremely lethargic for the rest of the day, falling asleep at a drop of a hat in the most inconvenient places. Perhaps in the hot tub itself? Or maybe on top of another guest? Oops!
- Facial/Manicure/Pedicure: If your character opts for the more traditional spa day activities, they'll find themselves unable to stop talking afterwards. To the staff, to other guests, they've got a bit of a motormouth today.
- Massage: Now, a massage, who doesn't like a good massage? Except afterwards, your character will find themselves particularly touchy feely with everyone they come across, being painfully clingy and unable to let go of their friends, or even strangers. Whoops.
- Sauna: You would think the sauna would be safe but if your character goes in for a nice sweat, they'll come out feeling extra aggressive and itching for a fight, either physical or verbal. They'll start picking fights with the staff or other guests, unable to stop themselves.
All of these effects will wear off after a few hours, where your character will have to do a mortifying walk of shame after and apologize to folks. Oops.
Welcome to Hotel Caelum! Feel free to make up your own stuff to play with as well. Check out the locations page for ideas.

You have very keen eyes. Are you an architect?
no subject
I am, as a matter of fact! [SPARKLES. Not literally, but emotionally.] I primarily specialize in architectural design. I'd love to speak with whoever designed this place--some of these stylistic decisions are fascinating.
[Nothing at all like Genshin architecture!!]
no subject
But she knows emotional sparkling when she sees it. How cute.]
Maybe you can submit an inquiry to Mr. Bennet about meeting that person.
no subject
The gentleman who asked us who we'd kill? I can't say I'm all that eager to speak with him.
[OF ALL THE QUESTIONS TO ASK...]
no subject
But you're more than willing to roam the building under his care.
no subject
Yes, well... [Can he say the vacation opportunity is worth it. Would that sound bad. Hm. He takes a different angle--] There are a good number of other staff here, so I doubt there's anything untoward going on.
no subject
And if there is? Would you leave this hotel?
no subject
[He says that but he'd probably busy himself helping out and only head home once he was satisfied... sometimes a guy just can't help himself.]
no subject
[It's a sweet sentiment. Depending on his motives, maybe too sweet for her to grasp.]
Well, Mr. Architect, you have all this time to inspect the architecture of this hotel to your heart's content until then.
no subject
BUT WHO WANTS TO TALK ABOUT THAT WHEN YOU COULD TALK ABOUT WINDOWS AND TRUSSES AND CHAMFERS]
I certainly intend to! [Just wait until he discovers how to take photos on his hotel-issued phone. JUST WAIT.] Which floor is your favorite so far?
no subject
If I had to choose, maybe the fifth. It's the ocean floor.
no subject
Really? Do you mean the decor, or is it more like a beach?
no subject
no subject
I have, though it was years ago. My mother... when she remarried, she wanted to hold the ceremony near the water. [He's quiet for a moment, though he smiles quickly once he catches himself.] I'll have to visit the fifth floor and see what it's like.
no subject
It seems there's always a story where mothers are concerned. Whether Kaveh's was kind or cruel is no business of Reiju's.]
Which floor do you prefer?
no subject
So far, my own! The workshop is nothing like what I'm used to. There's also a floor where the gravity is affected, and it's covered in stars--it was unpleasantly startling at first, but it's quite beautiful once you know what to expect.
[...]
And the bars, of course. [Okay.]
no subject
Your floor must be the third. [It's that kind of number.] Will you be crafting anything during your stay?
no subject
(*citation needed)]
I would certainly love to try. I don't have anything in mind yet, but sometimes it takes a few days for inspiration to strike.
no subject
That's such an abstract concept.]
What does it look like when it does?
no subject
What, inspiration? [Amused--] Typically, a fit of mania at three o'clock in the morning.
no subject
You're a night owl.
no subject
[Workaholics and their self-inflicted problems...]
no subject
A craft like yours must take a considerable amount of time. Is it something that's done alone?
no subject
Mm... yes, and no. I'm beholden to the wishes of my clients, but the design process is typically something I do on my own, unless I'm consulting my colleagues for one reason or another. But I like to see my projects through to completion, so I'll often keep in contact, check in with the vendors and the builders--sometimes I'll stay near the construction site to help with any unforeseen problems. If my design has some kind of flaw that would but the safety of the workers or future inhabitants at risk, it's my responsibility to make adjustments and fix the issue. It's typically faster, as well.
What about you? What sort of work do you do?
no subject
Reiju nods along at the end of the explanation. Kaveh is extremely involved (admirably so), yet he's still short on time? It's no wonder he keeps odd hours.]
I come from a family of mercenaries. Our jobs range from escorting smaller ships to ending wars.
