EVENT LOG number 001
As your characters arrive to the hotel and check in at the front desk, they'll be handed a keycard for their room. If they're the type to linger or want to ask Mr Bennet questions, they'll be shooed off quite quickly by the hotel manager instead as today is a big day for the hotel.
"It's our grand opening," he explains. "Though, we were open beforehand just... now we're open to the multiverse! Isn't that wonderful?" Though he doesn't wait for a reply before moving on to the next guest in the queue and working to get their room next. Looks like they've been dismissed.
When they arrive to their room, they'll be greeted with a lush hotel room to their personal standards and quite ready to be enjoyed and lived in for the foreseeable future. On their pillow, will be a mint.
Or twelve mints.
Or half a mint?
For some people, there is just a note that says "sorry" and that's about it. Strange. Either way, they're free to have their mint(s) or not but it looks like they're not the only one settling into this strange hotel. Maybe they should strike up a conversation with another guest nearby after they've settled in? SPA DAY.
After a few days of settling in, characters will find themselves waking up one morning and greeted by a coupon sitting on their nightstand. The coupon reads: FREE SPA DAY and nothing else. Which is kind of funny since, well, isn't everything already free? Either way, if your character tries to figure out what this means and go down to the spa, they'll run into a very busy staff ready to attend to whoever comes visit the spa. There are a few options available but strangely enough, after your character participates... they may find a few side effects too.
For instance:
- Hot Tub: If your character visits the hot tub, they'll find themselves extremely lethargic for the rest of the day, falling asleep at a drop of a hat in the most inconvenient places. Perhaps in the hot tub itself? Or maybe on top of another guest? Oops!
- Facial/Manicure/Pedicure: If your character opts for the more traditional spa day activities, they'll find themselves unable to stop talking afterwards. To the staff, to other guests, they've got a bit of a motormouth today.
- Massage: Now, a massage, who doesn't like a good massage? Except afterwards, your character will find themselves particularly touchy feely with everyone they come across, being painfully clingy and unable to let go of their friends, or even strangers. Whoops.
- Sauna: You would think the sauna would be safe but if your character goes in for a nice sweat, they'll come out feeling extra aggressive and itching for a fight, either physical or verbal. They'll start picking fights with the staff or other guests, unable to stop themselves.
All of these effects will wear off after a few hours, where your character will have to do a mortifying walk of shame after and apologize to folks. Oops.
Welcome to Hotel Caelum! Feel free to make up your own stuff to play with as well. Check out the locations page for ideas.

That's such an abstract concept.]
What does it look like when it does?
no subject
What, inspiration? [Amused--] Typically, a fit of mania at three o'clock in the morning.
no subject
You're a night owl.
no subject
[Workaholics and their self-inflicted problems...]

A craft like yours must take a considerable amount of time. Is it something that's done alone?
no subject
Mm... yes, and no. I'm beholden to the wishes of my clients, but the design process is typically something I do on my own, unless I'm consulting my colleagues for one reason or another. But I like to see my projects through to completion, so I'll often keep in contact, check in with the vendors and the builders--sometimes I'll stay near the construction site to help with any unforeseen problems. If my design has some kind of flaw that would but the safety of the workers or future inhabitants at risk, it's my responsibility to make adjustments and fix the issue. It's typically faster, as well.
What about you? What sort of work do you do?

Reiju nods along at the end of the explanation. Kaveh is extremely involved (admirably so), yet he's still short on time? It's no wonder he keeps odd hours.]
I come from a family of mercenaries. Our jobs range from escorting smaller ships to ending wars.
no subject
Oh, I see. [He nods, understanding; Sumeru's military force is, essentially, mercenaries, so it makes perfect sense to him.] Your family sounds very accomplished. Ending wars is no small feat.
no subject
It depends on the war. If the opposing army's technology and power aren't up to par, it only takes a handful of hours to eliminate them down to the last man.

[Truly Childe would be having a field day at this hotel, but instead there is Kaveh "Just Some Guy" GenshinImpact who pretty much only knows how to fight because he travels alone on a regular basis.]
no subject
[He's an architect foremost. Fighting isn't his primary objective. As long as he can defend himself, that's enough.
It would be nice if that were always enough.]
Is it dangerous where you're from, Mr. Architect?
no subject
no subject
[In her experience, most people hire mercenaries for protection. That says a thing or two about Kaveh.]
It sounds like you and I are from radically different places.
no subject
[Presumably they're, like. Out there?? But in his few trips abroad, he's never actually seen any himself.
He nods, though.]
We're very fortunate. Myself even moreso--life in the desert is very harsh, but I've been in the city all my life.

What is it like?

Then Lesser Lord Kusanali is the governor.
no subject
[He is perhaps a tad biased, but politics helped ruin his career field, so. Justified, in his opinion.]
no subject
More importantly(?) . . . ]
Then you've no interest in power or fame.
no subject
[He'd accept the role of Kshahrewar sage if it was thrust upon him, but it would be obligation and responsibility, nothing more. For all his banter with Alhaitham about their respective prosperity and careers, it's not something he really wants for himself.]
no subject
[That's . . . such a free way of thinking.]
Not many would feel the same way in your position.
no subject
If only it were that simple.
[As a younger man, he likely would've agreed with her, and easily; now, when he's all too conscious of having to box up his dreams to please clients, of how far to stretch his coin to survive the overbearing weight of his debts, he's not quite so starry-eyed and naive.
But he doesn't like talking about that even with his nearest and dearest, so he smiles and gestures out at the hotel.]
It's fortunate that our necessities are provided for, don't you think? It leaves plenty of freedom for daydreaming as much as we'd like.
no subject
She also understands when it's time to change the subject.]
Yes, it's certainly convenient. There's almost more time than I know what to do with.
no subject
I know what you mean. I've found myself thinking of indulging in hobbies I haven't had time for in ages.
