EVENT LOG number 002
The hotel humbly hopes that you're settling in well and are taking advantage of the various pleasures on offer for your stay. In Mr Bennet's opinion, things have been going quite well and he doesn't think that the guests are unhappy at all. New guests have arrived, some have left, it's all going along perfectly. So, of course, this is when the next troublesome thing pops up.
SHADOWS
One morning, characters will find the hotel to be a little dimmer than usual, a little more shadowy. Yet if anyone asks Mr Bennet about it, he will claim to not have noticed anything different than usual. Either way, as the characters move on with their day, they'll start to notice a few odd things start to happen. PHASE ONE: Initially, characters will notice their shadow beginning to move a little out of sync with them. Discreetly at first until eventually, their shadow takes on a life of its own, mischievously playing with characters and enjoying their newfound freedom. Very Peter Pan, and completely harmless.
PHASE TWO: Now, shadows might disappear entirely, roaming the hotel to their own discretion and ignoring the characters they belong to. As the shadow takes on this free will, characters will begin to feel slightly off balance and have a hard time feeling whole without their shadow around. The shadow may become slightly aggressive as well if told they should return to their characters, fighting back in their own way from knocking things over to outright attacking other characters. It's a little hard to fight back though when your opponent is a shadow, isn't it?
PHASE THREE: The shadows have become fully aggressive now, fighting anyone who tries to get them to return to their original person. Characters will find themselves feeling weak and low energy as a result of losing their shadow. Eventually, the shadows will come back to their owners but the characters will find themselves sinking into their shadow, eventually changing places entirely with their shadow. The only way to rescue a character from this fate is for another character to pull them out of their shadow forcibly. The bright side is once a character is pulled out of their shadow, it all returns to normal and their shadow is no longer sentient. These phases will last over the course of the week and it is quite alright to stay in phase one/two/three. Not all shadows will become aggressive, not all shadows will be playful. Feel free to manipulate your character's shadow in the way that's most fun for you.

phase 3, shadow fight bc i choose the most dramatic option
Vincent’s shadow, unlike the real thing, isn’t touting a firearm; but it’s just as quick-footed and hard to pin down as the real thing. It drops from the ceiling, then lurches forward with a very sharp, claw-tipped gauntlet and makes a careless swipe right at Barghest’s middle.]

Passing by the other woman does indeed seem to throw them both off-balance, and Sumina finds her side slumping onto a wall, though soon she is joined by a giant, gauntlet-wearing hand, which seems to zip past her face at eye-level before the wall. Followed by a very low growl indeed. Help.
...She definitely saw it, needless to say. ]

iii. i believe odette was volunteered to be quicksanded
[Odette may be caught in the shadowy quicksand coming up around her legs and threatening to pull her down below, but she's fighting tooth and nail. The problem, of course, is that it's her shadow consuming her, and her shadow is full of just as much fight. The shadow has the added advantage of not having its energy sapped.
She's exhausted and beginning to fade, but it really seems like she intends to see this struggle as far as she can before accepting the assistance being offered.]

That voice—?
[ It doesn't sound... like his? She shakes her head. It doesn't matter what the voice sounds like. It matters that the sound of it has rendered Gojo seemingly paralyzed. It really is a blessing that weightlessness is as far as the hallway goes as far as imitating wildspace, which allows Sumina to draw in a deep breath and then shout, louder than she has ever sounded before: ]

Release him!
[A sharp gesture with his hands conjures spectral chains around the shadow as he puts it in a Hold, but its words were not lost on Gale, and he also knows that the spell won't stall it for long. With as strong as these shadows are, it will break free within moments, but he can only hope it will be enough to help Gojo free himself. ii help them
Sumina briefly wonders if they should have enlisted possibly any of their other guests to aid them in this quest but, well, everyone's got their own shit to worry about these days, don't they? She can't trouble anyone else with this, when she's already troubled Miss Giselle...
Though "trouble" shortly seems far too light for what transpires. As they step into the kitchen properly, her gaze flicks over sidelong just in time for Giselle's shadow to sink a knife into the Maid's back, wringing the breath out of Sumina's lungs and arresting her heartbeat as a cold feeling sinks in and her voice leaves her throat distraught with a scream: ]
M-Miss Giselle!
[ A decidedly magical glow emanates from Sumina's chest beneath her clothes, and just as her own shadow swings an entire cast iron skillet at her head, a magical barrier haloes around the half-elf and causes the blow to barely glance off of her. ]

3a for the space floor cadets
That’s not a fate he’d wish on anyone, but especially not his dear friends. Needless to say, the moment he realized that Sumina had gone missing in action had legitimately been quite harrowing. Thankfully for him, and for Gojo who has of course joined him on this merry chase, Sumina’s shadow has been one for causing trouble. She’s left a trail of banana peels and mischief for them to follow – all the way to a tavern.
The irony here is so strong.
Anyway, think fast, Gojo, there’s a chair being thrown their way! (Knowing Gojo, it’s probably a non-issue.) ]

Phase 2!!
Anyway
Kaveh is here!! Probably a bit tired from wrangling his own shadow, honestly, or helping people with their own. Given the size of the hotel, it's unfeasible to track down every single person, and he's not accustomed enough to the phones to think of calling or messaging as soon as he finds one--but he does, at the very least, try to keep an eye on the ones he sees and intervene if they're causing trouble. Truly, this ol' heart of his never stops bleeding.
In this case... well, if he's 100% truthful, it's a tiny bit funny to watch it scolding Astarion like that--Kaveh's on his way over to commiserate, but he's startled by the sudden aggression?! WHAT THE.]
I didn't think they could do that.

-- Watch out!
[ are you also here to enjoy a fresh pizza from the legendary Pizza Floor? Perhaps you are too distracted by delicious pizza smells to heed the warning called? Either way, think fast: a football-sized hole opens up out of nowhere right beneath your character's feet, seemingly timed just so to make them trip and spill their food, fall right into a member of the wait staff, or some other high school bully-level prank.
Early in the week, it's restricted to just that: pranks. However, later in the week, his shadow's behavior takes a decidedly more sadistic turn. Anyone visiting the beach floor may suddenly find themselves being shoved towards jagged rocks, pointy seashell shards, and particularly large waves by a shadow that constantly seems to be a minute ahead of the man who cast it. ]
PHASE 3:
[ As much as he might be used to long hours staking out areas or keeping watch for enemies, he's never had to do so while actively being drained of strength. Old habits die hard; weak as he might feel, he'd resolved to catch his shadow before it caused any serious trouble, and so he'd pressed on through the exhaustion. By the end of the week, his search finally bears fruit - technically. It's more like the shadow finds him. And by that point, he's weakened enough that he can barely fight back.
Which leads to the current situation: Bucciarati, halfway sunken into the ground in a floor of the hotel that looks like some kind of endless swimming pool. Not only is he waist-deep in his own shadow, he's about chest-deep in the shallow water, too. However, he's still hanging on - somewhat literally. All that's keeping him from being tugged down into the darkness is his Stand, Sticky Fingers, which has one hand, still barely connected to its arm by a long zipper, desperately clutching a beam along the ceiling. Its other arm is around Bucciarati, who's holding on rather weakly.
(If your character is acquainted with the supernatural, anyway. If they have zero acquaintance with magic, then his Stand's invisible, and this scene is at least twice as weird.) ]
... Pull me out, [ he croaks. Demandingly, even, as much as one can be demanding while this enervated. ]
Phase 2
(Luckily, her own shadow hasn't escalated beyond phase one just yet, contenting itself with lethargically following her around and occasionally trying to drag her away when there are too many people around.)
The called out warning is what alerts her that something is amiss, although it doesn't come quickly enough to prevent her from being shoved by a much-taller shadow out into the waves. She's quickly engulfed in the water, and if not for her Vision she'd be in danger of drowning then and there.
Her own shadow is no help at all. It sits down on the beach and just watches. Thanks for nothing.]

And it pisses him off.
If this is someone’s idea of a joke, or even just a blatant example of the hotel’s oddities crossing into untenable, then Henry isn’t so gracious to feel forgiving about it. He’s watched his own shadow depart, watched it flee from him — and he felt, as the days dragged by, his own energy start to flag, as though this place had any right in making him feel weak and useless. Lacking in control.
So, in very Henry Creel fashion, his anger flares. The polite facade hangs on by hinges, and sometimes he doesn’t bother to wear it at all as he chooses, stubbornly, to hunt down what’s fled. He will fight exhaustion until he literally collapses if that’s what it takes.
He finds himself in the library, leaning his weight into a bookshelf to steady himself as he flicks his gaze outward to seek his shadow. He sees flickering movement through the spaces between spines of books, and drags his noodly ass around to the other side to find—
Not his shadow. Two shadows. And Sprezzatura, accosted by them. Frustrated by this decidedly not being what he was looking for, Henry lurches forward and presses his palms hard on the table in front of her, frowning.]
You’re just going to let them do that?
[If she’s going to be lethargic, he’s going to be indignant enough for the both of them. He watches her sink slowly into the void of her twin shadows, less concerned and more… clinically annoyed.]
