The hotel humbly hopes that you're settling in well and are taking advantage of the various pleasures on offer for your stay. In Mr Bennet's opinion, things have been going quite well and he doesn't think that the guests are unhappy at all. New guests have arrived, some have left, it's all going along perfectly. So, of course, this is when the next troublesome thing pops up.

SHADOWS

One morning, characters will find the hotel to be a little dimmer than usual, a little more shadowy. Yet if anyone asks Mr Bennet about it, he will claim to not have noticed anything different than usual. Either way, as the characters move on with their day, they'll start to notice a few odd things start to happen.

PHASE ONE: Initially, characters will notice their shadow beginning to move a little out of sync with them. Discreetly at first until eventually, their shadow takes on a life of its own, mischievously playing with characters and enjoying their newfound freedom. Very Peter Pan, and completely harmless.

PHASE TWO: Now, shadows might disappear entirely, roaming the hotel to their own discretion and ignoring the characters they belong to. As the shadow takes on this free will, characters will begin to feel slightly off balance and have a hard time feeling whole without their shadow around. The shadow may become slightly aggressive as well if told they should return to their characters, fighting back in their own way from knocking things over to outright attacking other characters. It's a little hard to fight back though when your opponent is a shadow, isn't it?

PHASE THREE: The shadows have become fully aggressive now, fighting anyone who tries to get them to return to their original person. Characters will find themselves feeling weak and low energy as a result of losing their shadow. Eventually, the shadows will come back to their owners but the characters will find themselves sinking into their shadow, eventually changing places entirely with their shadow. The only way to rescue a character from this fate is for another character to pull them out of their shadow forcibly. The bright side is once a character is pulled out of their shadow, it all returns to normal and their shadow is no longer sentient.

These phases will last over the course of the week and it is quite alright to stay in phase one/two/three. Not all shadows will become aggressive, not all shadows will be playful. Feel free to manipulate your character's shadow in the way that's most fun for you.

...statistically, if something happens often enough to be considered a reoccurring incident rather than an anomaly, the most obvious explanation tends to be the common factor.

Oh, it's even worse than that. My friends are mostly just people I work with.

[ A wistful sigh. ]

[ Somewhere off to the side, their shadows are just. Dumbfounded right now. Are they being for real???

Meanwhile, Satoru shrugs. ]

Beer, wine, sake, whisky...it's all bad. Can't stand the stuff.

[Their shadows can pipe down, okay, there are bigger issues at hand here.]

Someone's been giving you bad alcohol, then. A good wine is one of life's finest pleasures.

I was a spoiled rich kid. You really think I've been having bad alcohol?

[ He will NEVER LIKE IT...sprite for LIFE ]

Ugh, you would be rich.

[RICH? NO WONDER THIS GUY IS SO OBNOXIOUS]

HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO REACT TO GOJOU JUST OWNING IT LIKE THIS

He looks at Gojou's shadow as if that will help]

[ The shadow, in return, mimes pulling at his eye and sticking out his tongue to blow a raspberry, not unlike a certain Vahumana researcher Kaveh may have encountered... ]

— Don't look at him, look at me! You were doing so good at ignoring them for awhile there...

[WHY IS GOJOU'S SHADOW JUST HAT GUY. Kaveh is suddenly and viscerally reminded of the championship so now he's just annoyed at both of them]

Don't tell me what to do. [GOSH!! To his own shadow, authoritatively--] Come on, let's go.

[

His shadow takes the opportunity to shove the vase off the shelf.]

[ ...Oh. Wow, that's actually pretty impressive, Kaveh's shadow marinated them both for SO long he'd all but forgotten about the vase —

And he could let it smash to the floor, it would serve Kaveh right, somehow, but then someone like Giselle or Sumina would come along to try to clean it up, and they don't need that right now...

So with lightning quick reflexes, Gojo reaches out to halt the fall of the vase mid-air, catching it in an aura of blue energy before stepping over to pick it up in his hand. ]

Come on, now. That's just tacky! Get your kicks pulling better pranks than that.

[THE IMPLICATION THAT KAVEH WOULDN'T CLEAN UP HIS OWN SHADOW'S MESS, PLEASE

Which is exactly what Kaveh is halfway bracing himself to do, even as he opens his mouth, reflexively reaching out--but Gojou moves so quickly that he freezes, startled. It's not like he's never been around someone teleporting before, but he and Alhaitham don't often fight together, and Kaveh isn't the sort to have his battle reflexes ready at all times.

Kaveh's shadow tilts its head at Gojou, blatantly nosy; Kaveh, on the other hand, stays put, clearly torn--but eventually he crosses his arms and looks away.]

...Thank you. [He mutters it, but he does say it.]

[ He does say it!!! And in response, Gojo flashes him a bright, toothy grin that says more than enough on its own, but he can't help but tack on a cheeky: ]

You're welcome!

[ In a very sing-songy kind of voice, before he sets the vase down on the floor. ]

It's pretty ugly, anyway. Kind of think your shadow was doing us a favor by breaking it. Can you handle it on your own from here?

[ANNOYING... Kaveh doesn't even need to look at him to know he's got an obnoxious smile on his face. GOD.]

Ugh. That's probably exactly what it was doing. [He hates that it makes sense but honestly it's kind of exactly what he wants to do when he has to implement a client's horrible choices sometimes, so. Eurgh.] ...Yes, I'm fine. It'll behave in my room.

[Because his decorative tastes are immaculate so it has no reason to break anything, is his thought process]
