Happy New Year, folks! The Hotel is settling into the New Year with little fanfare. Mr Bennet remains at his post behind the hotel desk and helps check guests in and out daily. The Hotel continues to hustle and bustle and nothing seems to be going too awry beyond the usual shenanigans. In fact, one might even call this the slow season for the Hotel.
THE FLOOR IS LAVA
That is until the second week of the month where the intercoms start with Mr Bennet's pleasant voice coming through.
"Hello, hello! This is just a small warning that one of our floors, the current 79th floor to be exact, has had a small... malfunction, I suppose, and will be affecting the other floors of the Hotel. No word yet from maintenance when this will be over, so stay on your toes, my dear guests!"
And that's it. No indication of what the problem is, or anything like that. It's up to you to figure out what's going on! And what is going on? Well, it'll become obvious very quickly when wherever characters happen to be in the Hotel, they'll soon start feeling a very obvious warmth on the floor below them. It'll increase the longer they stay standing in one spot until it's almost burning their feet.
The only salve for this will be hopping onto a nearby piece of furniture and getting their feet off the floor. It'll soon become obvious that the entire Hotel has been wrapped in a game of The Floor is Lava, including the floor turning into actual lava on some of the floors.
SAFETY SLEEPOVER
Of course, the Hotel is not cruel enough to make the entire Hotel unsafe and soon enough Mr Bennet's voice will come through on the intercom again.
"For those looking for respite from our current Hotel wide game," because clearly it's a game now. "We'll be serving tea and cake in the lounge on the ground floor. Maintenance has been able to fix the lounge for now so feel free to come by when you can if you'd like to rest. We have sleeping bags!"
As folks enter the lounge, they'll find that Mr Bennet is true to his word. The lounge has been converted into a giant sleepover, with sleeping bags lining the floor and a long table off to the side where people can eat their tea and cakes. Mr Bennet is near the food table, handing out pajamas, toothbrushes, and sleep masks to those who request them. There's some new doors off to the side leading to some restrooms, at least, so guests can change in private.
Though, one thing to point out is when Mr Bennet says there's tea and cakes, the cakes happen to be lava cakes. He thinks he's funny.
THE FLOOR IS ICE
It'll take about two days for hotel maintenance to fix the Hotel and return it to normal. So that's two days of living out of the lounge or hopping around the Hotel to get places. What a headache. Mr Bennet will make another lively announcement on the intercom.
"We are back in business, folks! I've just been given word that everything should have return to normal now. Though, there is a warning to make sure not to walk around barefoot for at least another day or so while the Hotel settles. Thank you for your patience!"
What that means becomes obvious soon as anyone walking around now will feel that the floor is especially cold. That's a bit better than the heat, at least, but still kind of a pain in the ass. Anyone who tries to walk around barefoot will find that their feet quickly start to freeze but any permanent damage is easily avoidable by putting on some socks or getting off the floor entirely.
Though that said, the ice does lead to some furniture sliding around and even with shoes on, characters might find themselves sliding too.
What a lovely end to the holidays.

Yeah, well, you aren't the only one…
[Again, it's an entirely reasonable desire to want to be out of here, though he'd rather it weren't at his expense. There's the vaguest trace of a curl to his lip, not quite a sneer, but something close enough — he's obviously annoyed. ]
That's a neat trick you have there. Can you not just, you know— [ he motions with his hand in the direction of the exit, as if that helps. ] Float yourself out.
no subject
Why didn't I think of that? And here I was, just trying to build a makeshift bridge out of melting furniture to escape.
[If he could float himself out! He sure would have!!
Beside them, lava boils and pops hotly, threateningly.]
I'm psychic, but I'm not a superhero. I can't fly.

I'm just saying, if I could make objects levitate and move with my mind, I'd probably do it to something I was already standing on.
[ There's probably some sort of restriction on his abilities, Abbacchio knows how something seemingly straightforward can end up being unnecessarily convoluted. He summons his Stand again, closer to Henry, and uses them this time to knock over a wardrobe, creating a larger surface area. ]
Discussing technicalities won't get either of us out of here, though, will it?
no subject
that's the player's story and she's sticking with it, anywayHenry doesn't even do a double take at this stranger's... abilities. He's seen odder in his time (well, debatably; a Stand is pretty weird), and even more so since his stay in this hotel. But he does narrow his eyes a little at it, reaching out with a hand to drag the wardrobe over closer so they can hop atop it and find their way closer to the exit.]
What is that?
[Okay, no, he does have to ask.]
as an eddie player, i feel you
Moody Blues; they're an extra pair of hands.
[ Well, at least Abbacchio's Stand isn't Metallica… Moody stares at Henry with those odd speaker-like eyes before vanishing with a whirr; Henry isn't the only one struggling, as it turns out. Between the heat and the hopping around, Abbacchio isn't really maintaining enough concentration to keep his Stand active. If they're to get out of here, there's still a ways to go, and so he points towards the recently-vacated cabinet. ]
Can you float that over? It should be enough to bridge the gap to the door.
🤝
No time to question it now. His energy is flagging in this temperature, and he can feel every use of his powers becoming more and more of an effort. He jumps across to land in the same space, listing forward so that he actually has to reach out and grab the other man's shoulder, tightly, to remain balanced. Sorry, buddy.
Henry just makes a grunt of a noise, reaching out with his powers to bring the cabinet back around to the front. If they're going to use this strategy, then they better hope the furniture doesn't melt or catch aflame any time soon. It's getting harder to focus -- a small stream of blood is eking from Henry's nostril.]
no subject
That's not important though, not when he's reaching out to grip Henry's forearm as he finds his footing and shifting his own to act as a counterweight, he doesn't seem entirely bothered about the hand on his shoulder — he gets it, he wouldn't want to lose his balance either. When he catches sight of the blood at Henry's nose; he frowns. The man hasn't been physically injured that he's aware of, and so he's left to draw his own conclusions. ]
How long do you think you can keep that up?
[ As blunt as it might sound, it is a question of genuine concern; they don't know what will be on the other side of the door, and if he's running low so to speak, they might need to think of alternatives — his Stand certainly won't be as helpful as literal telekinesis. ]
no subject
As long as we need.
[sure, henry
He raises his hand to messily wipe away the all-too-famiiar sensation of crimson trickling down from his nostril, leaving a smeared tract of red. The cabinet is situated in front of them, so-]
Go. Jump.
[He'll follow! Without tilting into the lava! Maybe! It'll probably be fine!]
no subject
There's no hesitation when he leaps across, and though the cabinet definitely begins to dip one way, he's able to summon his Stand and balance it out — more than that, he'll be able to make a grab for Henry should he need to, and cover more than one angle. ]
Come on, before this thing is useless.
[ Gesturing for the man to follow, he's already adjusting his stance, Moody Blues mirroring him. ]
no subject
Henry's all determination scrawled across his (sweaty) features. This is the face of a man who doesn't give up easily, if nothing else, despite how pathetic of a display it might be. He eases back on a foot, looking as though he's a spring loading itself to leap forward, and-
He makes the jump. It's... it's a jump, all right, and normally it'd be enough were it not the ever so slightly wobble of the cabinet. Just enough to send him listing backwards, very precariously-
Help??? Maybe???]
no subject
From first glance, everything looks fine; Henry's jump could certainly be a little more practised, but the man is under duress, Abbacchio won't hold it against him if he doesn't have perfect form— ]
Shit—!
[ At the first sign of trouble, he moves into action quicker than he can think — matters made complicated by how unsteady the cabinet is. Moody Blues moves backwards to redistribute some of the weight while Abbacchio himself reaches out and makes a grab for Henry's forearm none too gently, and attempts to pull him away from the edge. Even with his Stand, the balance is wrong, though, and at this rate, Abbacchio is sure the cabinet is not long for this world. ]
no subject
A normal person would feel gratitude. Maybe, in a less harrowing situation, even Henry might feel a mote of it; when was the last time anyone bothered to help him, anyway?
But right now, frustration spikes. The cabinet is sinking slowly into the lava, which means their cycle of "stepping stones" isn't going to be a valid strategy for very long. Shit.
Think. Henry sneers.]
How strong's that summon of yours?
[His Stand, he means.]
no subject
He's about to dismiss his Stand when Henry asks about them, glancing from one to the other before tsking quietly. Unwittingly, he's hit upon a sore spot of sorts, Abbacchio is keenly aware his own Stand is niche in its abilities and frequently of little help. It could be worse, he supposes. At least his Stand has hands. ]
About as strong as I am. Why, what do you have in mind?
[ Moody Blues is an almost mirror-match for Abbacchio's build and physical strength, and he's no slouch, at least — put in extra work specifically because his Stand is the way it is; them being on par with him is better than nothing. ]
no subject
They've drifted reasonably closer to the elevator entrance, its doors open and nigh-taunting, to the point where, with the combined strength of two not-insubstantially-strong individuals, this sounds like less a long shot and more viable. (Though perhaps still a bit absurd.)]
Throw me. The lava hasn't seeped into the elevator just yet.
no subject
[ There's a touch of incredulity in his tone as he stares at the man, narrowing his eyes as if he's just admitted to something heinous. Could he do it? Sure, probably fairly easily, but any number of things could go wrong and Abbacchio kind of thinks that's a big ask — he doesn't want to be responsible for injuring him, or worse, accidentally launching a man into lava. He also doesn't want to hem and haw over it and waste time that they don't have. Huffing, he nods. ]
Oh, fine, come on.
[ How the hell is he going to do this? Realistically, he probably doesn't need Moody Blues' aid, maybe they'd be better suited to being in the elevator. He'll figure it out. ]
sorry this became truly unhinged
If you have any better ideas, I'm listening.
[Arms open like here I am, pick me up and toss me like a football my guy -- but he does add:]
If I'm in the elevator, I can drag you over here with my powers, then we can get out of here.
dont be i love it
He grimaces, because no, he doesn't have any better ideas, and he definitely doesn't have the luxury of time to think of anything better. One last look over Henry, with his arms thrown open, before he moves; grabbing Henry by the waist and hauling him up off of his feet while he dismisses his Stand. ]
This was your idea.
[ You know. In case it goes poorly. It's less fastball special and more awkward flinging — not unlike that horrible move an older sibling does when throwing their younger siblings into a pool. Putting his entire weight behind it, though, he all but shot puts the man, while the cabinet tilts forward dangerously. ]
