Though the mistletoes are still nefariously(?) flitting about the hotel, the guests are in luck (???)! Because a new distraction in the form of a new floor emerges. On several floors, characters will find that there are new signs put up that advertise that there’s a birthday celebration on Floor [REDACTED].

Heading to that floor will reveal that the celebration is not just for one character in particular: it’s The Birthday Floor™, where everyone’s birthday can be revealed and celebrated!! Yay!! There’s even cute music playing for the occasion!!

Upon entering, characters will find that the Birthday Floor is colorfully decorated — with balloons, party hats, and streamers all hung about. And that’s not all…

I. dressing up your blorbo

Once inside, characters will find that their outfit will change according to what season they were born in — their new drip will coincide with either the colors of that season, or the style of clothes fitting for that season! A summer baby might be wearing bright colors, or they might be in a swimsuit. A winter baby might be in pastels, or they might get poofed into a huge fluffy coat!

II. qr code birthday reveal

It’s time for all the ye oldes to learn what a QR Code is. In several places around the room, there’s a QR Code to be scanned which will download a birthday calendar onto your phone, which has every guest’s birthday marked inside it (it even converts fantasy calendars to the Jan-Dec one!). Each birthday is marked with a cute little icon of the character, and tapping on the date in your phone will reveal a little bit of auto-filled information about that person. Example below (NOT REAL):

III. birthday cakes

One of the stranger things (heh) on this floor is that there is no food, only cake. But like, cake of every imaginable flavor? Most interestingly, there is a mountain of cupcakes on one of the many tables littered about this floor, and next to the mountain is a box of cupcake toppers.

What might the toppers be of, you might ask? Numbers! That’s right, upon inspection, it’ll become obvious that each topper inside the box coincides to one of the guests' ages, which can be referenced here. However, there is no telling which topper belongs to who. Should you play a game of guessing other guests’ ages? Take this opportunity to lie about your own? EXPOSE someone for being a hag or a baby? The choice is yours…

IV. other party favors
About the room are a lot of other classic birthday party activities: piñatas, bouncy houses, face painting, the whole nine yards. Some piñatas are even magically reinforced, like you need to use supernatural powers to break them? And filled with unconventional things? It’s fine. There are even birthday traditions from all the guests’ home worlds, if you search hard enough!

[Reiju changes into whites and pastel pinks upon entering the floor. It's impossible to avoid the QR codes plastered everywhere, so she briefly finds herself thumbing through the downloaded calendar, realizing just how invasive it is, and tucking her hotel-issued device away before long. Then she meanders over to the box of cupcake toppers, where she holds a topper in each hand with the faintly amused arch of her eyebrow: hello 1 month and hello 1300.]

They made sure to cover the whole range, didn't they?

[The cupcake toppers are definitely encapsulating the entire range, to the point where it's vaguely confusing; Vincent wonders if some of these are exaggerations?]

One month... I guess looks can be deceiving.

There are guests here who appear much younger than their years. It's my first time hearing about someone who looks the opposite, though.

[Unfortunate, really. She's pretty sure she hasn't seen infants over the weeks.]

You never know what someone's been through. A lot of people here aren't even human, from what I understand.

[Exhales slowly, closing his eyes.]

Some of those numbers, though... The ones on the farther end. Seems like a joke.

[Like, there ones that are over a thousand? The topper is bigger than the cupcake?]

[She almost nods to the first statement. Instead she just smiles wider at the second.]

Are there no long-lived races where you're from?

[He seems to consider that.]

There's an intelligent, feline-like species. [On the cusp of extinction, but that's getting into too much messy detail.] They can live for hundreds of years, as far as I know. But anyone humanoid usually lives a normal human lifespan.

["Usually." There are exceptions. Like him.]

Of course, there are always exceptions.

[Some people just live a very long time. Others . . . ]

But you're right. It's difficult to imagine someone who's lived over a thousand years.

[He just nods. It is difficult; he doesn't know what he'd do with all that time. This is a man, when forced into having a longer lifespan, decided to sleep years of it away.]

[Which age topper, he means. Yeah, he's asking her his age. Rude, surely?]

[The clumsiness strikes again. The fact that he catches it is endearing, in a way. She peers into the box, then reaches in and pulls out a topper that says, "hello 24."]

[ The 1300 seems more believable than the 1 month, to be honest... she chuckles, looking through the box herself. ]

Though I cannot say I have seen a guest befitting of such a young age. Have you?

[It's funny, how the more conventionally believable age is unbelievable within the hotel. The worlds out there are such odd places.]

No, I can't say that I have. I wouldn't mind knowing the people who fit both numbers.

Oh? Do you have an interest in what may set these people apart from the majority of the guests?

No more than I have in meeting the others. I've found all the guests here to have something interesting to say.

Might I ask how you are enjoying speaking with the guests thus far? [ interesting doesn't mean good, after all! ] Age is not the only great variety among us.

[The people are softer—kinder, even—than she was expecting. It's also nice to engage in conversation without excessive stammering and formalities.]

The hotel doesn't appear to distinguish its guests based on status or anything of the sort. It's not often that I get to hear about so many places and experiences.

Yes, that is very true. There are a number of nobles among us... but also children who are students, or soldiers.

[ Or even servants. It is quite a strange mix of people to be in one place, particularly if you come from a society with strict rules or high walls between the classes. ]

It would be more standard for different classes to be expected to socialize with one another, where I hail from. A servant would not have any business speaking with guests like this so casually, hehe... [ Her hand raises to her mouth politely as she chuckles. ] However, most guests are quite forward thinking, I've found.

Yeah? I guess in terms of mental age, I'd be closer to a standard age. Mid-twenties, maybe?

But that's our standard. To you, it must just be a number.

That's true. Not to say that I don't get that aging is important to humans. Milestones and all of that, right? I wouldn't expect a human who's twenty to feel the same way as one who's fifty.

It's just a little more arbitrary for someone like me, I guess.
