Event Log #002

EVENT LOG
number 002

The hotel humbly hopes that you're settling in well and are taking advantage of the various pleasures on offer for your stay. In Mr Bennet's opinion, things have been going quite well and he doesn't think that the guests are unhappy at all. New guests have arrived, some have left, it's all going along perfectly. So, of course, this is when the next troublesome thing pops up.

SHADOWS

One morning, characters will find the hotel to be a little dimmer than usual, a little more shadowy. Yet if anyone asks Mr Bennet about it, he will claim to not have noticed anything different than usual. Either way, as the characters move on with their day, they'll start to notice a few odd things start to happen.

PHASE ONE: Initially, characters will notice their shadow beginning to move a little out of sync with them. Discreetly at first until eventually, their shadow takes on a life of its own, mischievously playing with characters and enjoying their newfound freedom. Very Peter Pan, and completely harmless.

PHASE TWO: Now, shadows might disappear entirely, roaming the hotel to their own discretion and ignoring the characters they belong to. As the shadow takes on this free will, characters will begin to feel slightly off balance and have a hard time feeling whole without their shadow around. The shadow may become slightly aggressive as well if told they should return to their characters, fighting back in their own way from knocking things over to outright attacking other characters. It's a little hard to fight back though when your opponent is a shadow, isn't it?

PHASE THREE: The shadows have become fully aggressive now, fighting anyone who tries to get them to return to their original person. Characters will find themselves feeling weak and low energy as a result of losing their shadow. Eventually, the shadows will come back to their owners but the characters will find themselves sinking into their shadow, eventually changing places entirely with their shadow. The only way to rescue a character from this fate is for another character to pull them out of their shadow forcibly. The bright side is once a character is pulled out of their shadow, it all returns to normal and their shadow is no longer sentient.
These phases will last over the course of the week and it is quite alright to stay in phase one/two/three. Not all shadows will become aggressive, not all shadows will be playful. Feel free to manipulate your character's shadow in the way that's most fun for you.

hexensabbat: (proper nouns. No they are not)

[personal profile] hexensabbat 2023-11-12 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
[....... Ah.]

I assume usually your shadow isn't sentient at all?
likesitruff: (And there's nothing you can't do)

[personal profile] likesitruff 2023-11-13 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed. I have had some experiences with sentient shadow-like creatures but I wouldn't call them legitimate shadows at the heart of it.
hexensabbat: (Less bugs!)

[personal profile] hexensabbat 2023-11-14 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Then you're being way too hard on yourself.

[She just flaps a hand.]

This is just weird stuff that's going down, and it's not your fault or your problem, really.
likesitruff: (And there's nothing you can't do)

[personal profile] likesitruff 2023-11-14 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps not, but I doubt accepting it as it is will change anything about it for the better.

[ how do you solve a problem like a shadow-- ]
hexensabbat: (Weave added a spell checker)

[personal profile] hexensabbat 2023-11-15 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, see, here's the plan.

First, you accept it's not your fault or your problem.

Second, you decide to meddle anyway because the shadows are real annoying, and you wanna do something about it.

Then you profit. What do you think?
likesitruff: (Til the end of your song)

[personal profile] likesitruff 2023-11-15 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
... I'm not certain that makes a difference in how I choose to approach this, but I suppose it isn't inaccurate to follow.

By profit, do you mean "subduing the shadows to suppress their level of irritation"?
hexensabbat: (with Sims that are on a different floor)

[personal profile] hexensabbat 2023-11-17 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
That's exactly what I mean!

See, you've got the hang of it already.
likesitruff: (That's the way that this song goes)

[personal profile] likesitruff 2023-11-17 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
... You're rather unusual.

And also not human, correct?
hexensabbat: (that fanart to your mom)

[personal profile] hexensabbat 2023-11-20 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Right, right, though what I am seems like it's a hassle to explain these days.

[She flaps a hand.]

You're... not a demon, are you?
likesitruff: (Keep your eyes on the goal)

[personal profile] likesitruff 2023-11-20 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I am a faerie.

... Though I have heard the term before. A demon is a creature who torments and kills humans?
hexensabbat: (two Discord sew you can no)

[personal profile] hexensabbat 2023-11-21 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
As far as folklore's concerned, sure.

But not all of them are like that. Faeries, though... [Hmmm!!] Not to be rude, but can't the fae folk be just as bad in their own way sometimes?
likesitruff: (Singing the song THAT IS TOO LONG)

[personal profile] likesitruff 2023-11-21 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
... Yes. There can also be faeries who would do dreadful things and take joy in it.

[ A bit tightly. ]
hexensabbat: (Less bugs!)

[personal profile] hexensabbat 2023-11-23 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, there you have it. Same for humans. [Same for AIs. Same for everyone.]

You seem like one of the more upstanding kinds, at least.
likesitruff: (It goes on and on and on)

[personal profile] likesitruff 2023-11-23 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Upstanding...? Me?

[ Well. ]

I do not take joy in the suffering of others, but I would not consider that enough to qualify me under such terms.
hexensabbat: (because you're so freaking)

[personal profile] hexensabbat 2023-11-26 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I do.

[Casually, confidently.]

It doesn't take much to be upstanding, you know? Worrying about other people being safe and going out of your way to help them qualifies as far as I'm concerned.
likesitruff: (You won't fail)

[personal profile] likesitruff 2023-11-26 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
We may have different definitions, then... to me, that is simply common decency. If you're strong enough to protect others, you should.
hexensabbat: (by you guys!)

[personal profile] hexensabbat 2023-11-29 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Even if you say that... it's not so common though, is it?
likesitruff: (Where is the song that goes like this)

[personal profile] likesitruff 2023-11-29 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps there aren't that many strong people here, then.

Or they don't deserve to be called as such.
hexensabbat: (Default)

[personal profile] hexensabbat 2023-11-29 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm.

[She's not sure "upstanding" and "strong" are the same thing, but...]

I guess it might be easier to interfere if you're strong enough to do it without any consequences.
likesitruff: (Keep your eyes on the goal)

[personal profile] likesitruff 2023-11-29 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That's right. Knowing your limits is equally important.

... Also I've been rude. My name is Tam Lin Barghest--a knight of Faerie Britain.
hexensabbat: (Weave added a spell checker)

[personal profile] hexensabbat 2023-12-01 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Nice to meet you.

[She doesn't really think Barghest has been rude, but it's not really worth arguing.]

I'm Ringo. Just Ringo. Since it seems like we're both pretty capable of fighting, let's work together to deal with this shadow problem as it pops up, alright?
likesitruff: (If you trust in your soul)

[personal profile] likesitruff 2023-12-01 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds sensible enough. I'll be looking forward to working with you, Ringo.

[ AND THEN THEY DID THE THING. ]
