It could be that it simply wants to be free.

With that as her main working theory, the thought that the shadow will immediately try something nefarious doesn't cross her mind — meaning that she can't prevent it when her shadow, within moments of being freed, reaches down and throws a hermit crab in the general direction of Bruno's face. ]
