Happy February, folks! The hotel is chugging along as it always does and nothing really seems that out of the ordinary, actually. Mr Bennet is at the front desk as per usual, greeting new guests, checking out old ones, generally being mediocre at his job but there's something a little... off about him this morning. A little more Springtime focused. Is it the suit? No, no, that's the same as it always is. Is it the face? No, Mr Bennet's face is unable to be perceived by eyes as per usual. No, it's the —

The bunny ears?

HOP TO IT

It seems Mr Bennet has developed a pair of bunny ears and a tail overnight, but he's not the only one. Every staff member and guest of the hotel will find that they have grown a pair of animal ears and a matching tail when they wake up that morning. It's nekomimi time, y'all! But not just neko, characters will find themselves with all categories of ears and tails. Cats, dogs, rabbit, deer, fish. Whatever animal best suits the characters are what they'll find themselves sporting.

For all intents and purposes, these will be part of your characters bodies and real additional limbs. It will hurt if someone hurts them and they will bleed if someone cuts them. There will be some added bonuses as well as characters will also take on the traits of the animals they become. However players want to interpret this is up to them — it can be light like a cat person just being more aloof or heavy like a spider person having multiple eyes and limbs. Whatever is most fun for the player and most hectic for the character, of course.

This effect will last till the end of the month.

Of course, an additional note: For characters who already have animal ears and/or tails — they will either keep those ears and tails and develop more traits of that animal. Or they can become something entirely different for the month. Player preference!

ANIMAL CRACKERS

Mr Bennet has found this to be hysterical though so he has set up a stall in the main lounge that's advertising animal crackers. They're a little less cracker and more cookie though, and larger than the traditional animal cracker. They also come in all shapes and sizes. If you can think of the animal, you can have an animal cracker with it. There is a dog cracker. There is a whale cracker. There is a spider cracker. All kinds of things. Even fictional animals, like gryphons and dragons!

The only catch is — once your character eats the cracker they will become that animal entirely. This is probably tipped off by the bunny rabbit hopping around the lounge in a little hotel jacket, huh. Thanks Mr Bennet. The effect of these crackers will last as long as the player prefers and characters are free to eat another cracker and become another animal afterwards.

One thing though, as the animal, characters will still be able to speak in animal form. So there's that!

The animal crackers will also be available till the end of the month.

[He also ate an animal cracker and has become a lion. All white and very fluffy. At the sound of her voice his ears perk up and he seeks out his missing pink companion. Jing Yuan puts his big paws on the edge of the tub and looks in to see her swimming around. His tail flicks back and forth and he tentatively lowers a paw into the water so he can try and touch her a little, mindful of the claws. She just looks very pretty even as a fishy.]

I can't just take you out of the water... But I can try and find a bowl and I will carry you back.

[ Jing Yuan makes a very handsome lion! The difference in size gives her a few moments' pause, but he's so gentle about dipping his paw into the water that instictive fears are quickly set aside. He's rewarded with a loving bonk from Kokomi swimming into him. It's about the only way she can currently show affection, given her circumstances. ]

Thank you, Jing Yuan. I wish you luck in finding a bowl, and if you can't I'll manage here.

[He rests his chin on the tub to watch her bonk him, his heart doing a little flip at the sight.

He'd love her even if she was a ~~worm~~ fish.]

I won't just leave you here if there is nothing to be found. [He retracts his paw and leans into the tub so they can bump... noses? Something close to it.] But I'll try first. Be safe... Don't swim down the drain.

[With the flick of his tail he's off to find something that he can keep his precious fish girlfriend in.

There are no bowls for fish keeping in. But there are just regular bowls. In cat like fashion he swipes a large plastic candy bowl off the table knocking all of the treats to the floor (he'll clean that up later) and plucks his find up with his teeth. It's perfect because it's blue!

He then pads back to proudly show her his find and see if it satisfies her fishy needs.]

[ He's too sweet. 💜

She touches noses (as much as a fish has a nose, anyway) with him. ]

Thank you again.

[ And off he goes, leaving her to wait for him to find something or return to keep her company until the effects wear off. There's not really a lot of stimulation to be found in an otherwise empty tub, so she contents herself with swimming in various patterns until she sees his shadow darken the top of the tub again. He's holding a blue bowl in his mouth. ]

That's perfect. [ She knew he'd come through! ] Would it be too much trouble for you to dip the bowl into the water so I can swim into it?

[Paws back on the ledge of the tub, he carefully dunks the bowl into the water trying to get as much water into it as possible so she can be comfortable. This is difficult without any thumbs... or hands... but he manages to get a decent amount in there as a starting point and keeps the bowl low enough for her to swim into.

He can't do anymore talking but his tail swishes back and forth in excitement.]

[ Once there's enough water in the bowl to sustain her, Kokomi doesn't hesitate to swim right into it. ]

That should be enough water.

[She knows he can't reply, but that doesn't mean she can't talk to him as he helps her. ]

Unless it's an undue hardship on you, carrying the bowl like this should work. If it will, we might have to enlist some assistance...

[He gives the slightest shake of his head, so not to jostle her bowl, and silently insists that he has got this.

Once she's secure he's quick to turn but the bowl is rather large and each excited step makes it bounce splashing water everywhere and that won't do. He sets the bowl down to nose an apology at her.

Softer steps going forward.

He takes the bowl in his teeth more and pads much more gently through the halls. He keeps his head up high so the water doesn't slosh over the edge and so she can get a good view of where they're going. If she turns to look at him he'll give a growl like sound of acknowledgement and his tail continues to flick back and forth, happy to see her. (There may be a little dog in this lion with his physical responses.)

He does have to set her down so he can nose at the elevator button. And once inside he tries to do it with his paw and hits a bunch of buttons on accident. Five is in there it'll just... be a minute... or several. He's unperturbed by his mistake and sets her down and lays down on the elevator floor, wrapping his tail around her bowl as they ride.]

How are you enjoying being a fish? I'm sure it would be more exciting if you weren't in a tiny bowl or bathtub... Is there an aquarium on some floor so that you can at least experience something exciting for a little while?

[It's a bumpy and sometimes uncomfortable trip, but Kokomi doesn't complain. Jing Yuan is doing her such a favor, and he can't quite help the mishaps. He's not usually a lion, after all, and carefully carrying things in one's mouth is difficult no matter what the form. Or so she assumes based on observation.

Besides, he's trying his best. That's what matters. If she could press a kiss on that nose he gives as an apology, she would.

Eventually, they make it to the elevator. Kokomi doesn't even notice that he's hit multiple buttons, it being so above her general line of sight. ]

It's simultaneously dull and overstimulating, if you would believe it. There's not much to do in a tub or bowl, but everything outside of the bowl is large and stressful.

I imagine if I stay in the shallows of the ocean on the fifth floor, I should be all right and find places of interest in the sea. I'm not defenseless, after all.

[ To demonstrate, she shoots one of her water fish out of the water. It flies up into the air before dissipating in a splash of water. ]

[He watches her little water fish with interest and bobs his big fluffy head very impressed.]

I will withhold testing my powers due to it being electricity and you are in a bowl of water. [He rests his chin on his paws, watching her in her blue tinted bowl.] But I will gladly take you to the shallows of the ocean so you can enjoy your time as a fish. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

[His ears perk up at the ding of the elevator but it is not their floor. But it will be theirs soon enough. He pushes himself up and stretches as best he can in the small elevator before carefully picking the bowl back up and, eventually, stepping onto the fifth floor. He sniffs at the air seeing if he can find his way to the ocean but... she can also guide him knowing this floor a little better than him.]

That's understandable and appreciated.

[ While normally she could hold up against the elemental reaction, she's not sure how well she'd handle it in her tiny fish body. It's better not to press their luck. ]

You are, of course, welcome to stay and keep me company. It should only be wading depth for you. And please remind me to offer to take you diving when we're both more ourselves.

[ Diving is one of Kokomi's favorite things to do. It's a peaceful experience, and one she'd be more than happy to share.

When they arrive on the fifth floor, Kokomi swims toward the right side of the bowl to direct him. ]

Follow along the shoreline for a bit, and you should find the cottage my room is in. We can settle in the water there.

[He follows her instruction, padding along and finding where she stays. The mix of ocean and her scent and direction help guide him here. Once at the shore he pads into the shallows and lowers her bowl into the water so she can easily plop out. He then flops down into the water so he can be as level as possible, even dipping his nose into the water to try and watch her better.]

If I was a little smaller I'd swim with you. [His tail slaps at the water as his energy has nowhere to go but in that new attachment.] But... We should go diving together. I can't claim to be a very good swimmer but I think I can paddle well enough.

[He reaches out with his paw, no claws, to try and gently pat her. As best he can with these big hulking things and her little body.]

I appreciate the sentiment.

[ But as things are, he's likely to either lose track of her or accidentally cause injury. Neither situation is ideal. ]

I'll make sure to give you diving lessons before we go too deep. You're in good hands.

[ ...er, fins. At least for now.

Swimming around in the ocean is much, much more enjoyable than the tub or the bowl. There's so much to do and see, and she feels much more at home here instinctually. Having Jing Yuan nearby is an added source of joy, and he seems content enough to watch her dart around and occasionally pat her with his paws. They're quite large, yes, but she's exceedingly gentle. The contact is more comforting than not.

It's easy to lose track of time like this, so she has no idea how much of it passes when something shifts rather suddenly. Before she realizes it, she's back to her mermaid-like form lying down in the shallows. Jing Yuan's paw is still resting on her head.

She blinks up at him a few times, re-orienting herself.]

[He nods in appreciation. He'd like that. For now he'll lounge in the shallows and watch her swim about. It's enjoyable to watch too! His cat senses enjoy the flitting about of a fish. Her colors and fins look so pretty beneath the shallow depths. He reaches out again, liking the feel of her scales beneath his paw pads.

And then quite suddenly...

His ears perk up at the sight of her. She's back! Sort of. Like a mermaid from a children's story. He jumps up, tail swishing back and forth, splattering droplets of water everywhere. With a great deal of enthusiasm he's pushing his nose under her chin, tongue licking at whatever is nearest, as this the best way he can give kisses. She's bigger and he can now shower her with all sorts of affection!]

[ She's as back as she's going to get until the hotel decides it's done making everyone have animal features. Luckily, she's more woman than fish. And definitely sturdy enough for his affectionate onslaught.

A bright and cheerful laugh rises out of her as he licks at her neck, so very unlike her usual reserved expressions. Jing Yuan is good at bringing that out of her, lion form or otherwise. ]

You've been eager to be this playful the whole time, haven't you?

[ She pulls him in for a hug. ]

[He follows easily into her embrace, resting his chin on her shoulder, paws careful in where they're stepping so not to put too much weight on her or accidentally scratch or harm her pretty new tail. Her laughter, so bright and full brings him nothing but happiness and if lions could purr he'd be louder than a starskiff engine. (But they cannot and that's so sad.)]

You were so small before... I was afraid I might hurt you.

[But now she's a much more acceptable size. Perfect for nuzzling against and cuddling.]

Do you still want to swim? [Or is it too shallow? He has no idea.] Or would you like to go back to your room? I can carry you.

[ (Time to eat another animal cracker and become a cheetah, Jing Yuan.) ]

I appreciate your care. It means a lot, especially considering how vulnerable I truly was.

[ She's not going to outright admit it, but being a tiny fish stressed her out quite a bit. Especially with all the cats that she interacted... ]

I'd prefer to stay in the shallows for a little while longer, if that's all right? It's too shallow for swimming, but the water feels nice.

[ She splashes a bit with the end of her tail, as if to emphasize her point. ]

[Absolutely. Time to become something that can purr.]

I was worried about you too. [He flops back into the water, resting his head against her stomach and watching her big tail slap at the water with great interest.] You were so small and fragile if you were like any other fish. I was worried about jostling the bowl too much.

[If he'd accidentally hurt her while trying to get her somewhere safe... It'd have been terrible.]

I don't mind at all... [The water does feel nice. It feels very good on his paw pads and helps keep him cool with all this fur. He also, quite frankly, just likes spending time with Kokomi even as a lion or she as a fish. If she just wants to sit in the shallow water he will happily do that. So he gives a big yawn and kicks his back legs out for extra comfort as he settles against her.] Do you like this form better? [He gently reaches a paw out to pat at her tail.] I can only imagine how fast you'd swim with a mermaid tail...

[They'll have to try it another time.]

[ She pets him as he settles against her, enjoying the the warmth and fluff of his lion body. ]

Thankfully, you did an exceptional job keeping me safe and getting me here.

[ All is well that ends well, and now she's in a much sturdier form that can handle the aggressive cuddling she's receiving from her lion boyfriend. She enjoys time spent with him in whatever form they're in, although she has to admit it's more enjoyable for her as a half-fish instead of a tiny fish in a bowl. ]

I like this better than being a fish, but I think I prefer to have legs to this. Getting around on land has been much more challenging, even if swimming is much easier.

I'll carry you wherever you need to go if you wind up stuck like this for a while.

[He assures her sleepily. The waves lapping at his form and their soothing sound, the warm presence of his partner, it's all so safe and comforting and it doesn't matter that he's a big cat. In fact... Being a big cat is pretty great. Everything feels spry and youthful and he enjoys it very much. He's also getting pet which is very comforting. He does resist the urge to roll on his back and get tummy scratches but it is a tempting siren's call.

With all these factors in mind it's only natural that he dozes beside her... He doesn't do that too much in her company as there is much to be awake for. Conversations and small meals, time spent together is not anything he wishes to miss out on. But as this is just an unusual cuddling session he finds himself snoozing easily in her lap.

Only for a little while because he poofs into an almost human form after some time. Like her he retains some of his animal features. The lion tail remains as well as two round ears just peeking out from all the puffy hair. Some of the sharp teeth have decided to stay as well. But the sudden transformation is enough to startle him awake.]

Oh! I'm back to normal... mostly.

[He sits up a little, the clothes he was in previous soaked from the shallows but he pays it no mind to nuzzle against her cheek. Many of those animal instincts remain, it seems.]
