EVENT LOG number 005 Happy February, folks! The hotel is chugging along as it always does and nothing really seems that out of the ordinary, actually. Mr Bennet is at the front desk as per usual, greeting new guests, checking out old ones, generally being mediocre at his job but there's something a little... off about him this morning. A little more Springtime focused. Is it the suit? No, no, that's the same as it always is. Is it the face? No, Mr Bennet's face is unable to be perceived by eyes as per usual. No, it's the — The bunny ears? HOP TO IT It seems Mr Bennet has developed a pair of bunny ears and a tail overnight, but he's not the only one. Every staff member and guest of the hotel will find that they have grown a pair of animal ears and a matching tail when they wake up that morning. It's nekomimi time, y'all! But not just neko, characters will find themselves with all categories of ears and tails. Cats, dogs, rabbit, deer, fish. Whatever animal best suits the characters are what they'll find themselves sporting. For all intents and purposes, these will be part of your characters bodies and real additional limbs. It will hurt if someone hurts them and they will bleed if someone cuts them. There will be some added bonuses as well as characters will also take on the traits of the animals they become. However players want to interpret this is up to them — it can be light like a cat person just being more aloof or heavy like a spider person having multiple eyes and limbs. Whatever is most fun for the player and most hectic for the character, of course. This effect will last till the end of the month. Of course, an additional note: For characters who already have animal ears and/or tails — they will either keep those ears and tails and develop more traits of that animal. Or they can become something entirely different for the month. Player preference! ANIMAL CRACKERS Mr Bennet has found this to be hysterical though so he has set up a stall in the main lounge that's advertising animal crackers. They're a little less cracker and more cookie though, and larger than the traditional animal cracker. They also come in all shapes and sizes. If you can think of the animal, you can have an animal cracker with it. There is a dog cracker. There is a whale cracker. There is a spider cracker. All kinds of things. Even fictional animals, like gryphons and dragons! The only catch is — once your character eats the cracker they will become that animal entirely. This is probably tipped off by the bunny rabbit hopping around the lounge in a little hotel jacket, huh. Thanks Mr Bennet. The effect of these crackers will last as long as the player prefers and characters are free to eat another cracker and become another animal afterwards. One thing though, as the animal, characters will still be able to speak in animal form. So there's that! The animal crackers will also be available till the end of the month. [ at first, tingyun doesn't realize anything is wrong. she sits up in bed in the morning, stretching her arms over her head with a smile and a happy little hum, sets her feet on the floor and rises to stand, arching her back and shaking out her tails.

wait. hang on. tails?

tingyun glances behind her and immediately gasps - where there had once been one single thick, fluffy tail, there are now three. is the hotel at it again? what else has changed?? all but flying to the en suite bathroom, she examines herself in the full length mirror, and anyone nearby will hear her piercing shriek. both her face and body are covered with red and black kitsune markings, and tingyun isn't pleased. ]

Oh no. Oh no, oh no, oh no!

[ she probably shouldn't trust these crackers, but for the sake of the vine it must be done. maybe it will fix her current predicament! there has to be a way to revert it, right? how much worse could it get? she selects a little fox shaped cookie because, well, she's a foxian, so it makes sense, doesn't it?

[Mer-Kokomi hears the shriek from the hallway and turns her bathtub cart around so she can go knock on the door. Hopefully, she won't have to break the door down to assist--she doubts it's powerful enough to do so.]

Hello? Is everything all right?!

[ oh.. perhaps she should not have shouted so loudly.. ]

Ah, um -

[ there's the sound of scrambling, muffled through the door as tingyun tries to compose herself, breathing deeply through her nose. ]

.. y-yes, sorry! I didn't mean to alarm you. I just..

[ the door cracks open just a bit, and tingyun peeks through it, her face striped with bright red kitsune markings. ]

[She sees the markings and fox features, and immediately everything clicks. Kokomi will learn later that the latter are just part of her species, but for now no further discussion on that is necessary.]

I see. This must be your first time dealing with such a strange thing in this hotel. Although, truth be told, this is more strange than usual.

[Case in point, she's a mermaid in a bathtub.]

This will wear off eventually, I promise.

[ she.. she sure is a mermaid in a bathtub! that's not something you see every day. ]

Well, I.. it's just..

[ she bites her lip and opens her door a little wider, to show the markings on her body as well, clearly visible up her arms and legs, since she's only wearing pajamas right now. ]

.. my skin! I don't have enough makeup for this!

Oh, dear. And even with makeup, a red that vivid will be difficult to cover.

[ Kokomi takes a moment to consider potential plans of attack, so to speak. Fish or not, she's a strategist at heart. ]

Would you be amenable to wearing clothing that would cover the extremities? That way, we'd only have to worry about the marks on your face.

[ Woops, there she goes! Clara, for her part, has been slithering around the hotel with her lower half turned into that of a snake's, much like a sort of lamia or naga, and patterned scales in swaths on her arms, interspersed with her various botanical tattoos...

She's nearby when the woman with foxlike features then turns fully into a fox, and chuckles. ]

Again?

[ What does that mean!! ]

[ AGAIN... ]

Yes, again, unfortunately..

[ tingyun's little fox face frowns, and she sits on her furry but, three tails lashing. her green eyes survey the snakelike woman, wondering whether she normally appears this way, or if it's the work of the hotel. ]

I ate a dessert not long ago that had more or less the same effect..

[ Sorry, she can't help but laugh... ]

How funny. How do they keep managing to do that? It must be the work of magic. It certainly is not borne of science...

[ Her gaze slides silently over to those three tails swaying back and forth as she comes to a seated position, her snake half coiling around itself and providing a sort of seat. ]

Better to stay away from dessert from now on, perhaps. Or maybe wait until someone else has tried it, like a poison tester.

Well, I don't know much about magic or science, really..

[ she's but a simple merchant!! well. a really good one. but still, tingyun sighs and spreads her little furry toes as she looks down at them. ]

.. I just know that I can't open doors or put on my makeup like this, and that's a problem.

...except hell yeah, he wants to turn into another animal for sure. He's still sporting his cat ears and tail for now, and you know what they say about cats and curiosity. What if he turns into a cute fox, too?

Approaching he offers Tingyun a hand...for pets. ]

C'mon, it could be waaaayyy worse. At least you're still something with legs.

anyway, she looks at his hand as if it's got three heads, before she sighs softly and allows him to pat her between the ears. she does know that she's very cute like this, at least!! even if still less cute than what she's used to. ]

.. I suppose. At least this is somewhat familiar. Even still, it isn't ideal.. I don't have any thumbs!

[ His usual sensibilities tell him to turn into another animal, but his feline sensibilities tell him to tread carefully...he wouldn't want to wind up a stinky dog, or something like that.

Foxes are okay apparently, though. After patting Tingyun between the ears, he picks up one of the animal crackers and turns it over between his fingers. ]

Thank god. A fox with thumbs would be freaky shit. [ ... ] If there's something you need, I could help you out, though...for a price.

[ He ain't doing shit for free! ]

It might be freaky, but right now I'm more interested in being able to, you know, open doors for myself..

[ she can't apply her makeup or cute clothes in this state!! ugh!!! at his price, however, she hmphs. ]

All right, I can appreciate a businessman, but I don't exactly have much to offer right now.

[ To be honest, if she'd called him out he probably would've helped her anyway, but hey, gotta try to hustle every now and again, right? Just for kicks and giggles. His catlike nature only exacerbates his true nature, after all. ]

[ He's just curious what she'll say, more than anything. ]

[Unlukily - or perhaps luckily? - for Tingyun, Odette has a tail of her own, having woken up feeling strangely rubbery and dry and seized with a wanderlust that she had indulged rather than get stuck in the rut of fatalism at being so changed.

Which brings her here, outside Tingyun's door, in the optimal front-row seat to hear her panicked shrieking. The reverberation bounces off her strangely even filtered through the wall and hallway, a sound that she feels nearly as well as she hears. She leans her side against the wall casually, dorsal fin preventing a true, arms-crossed, back-to-the-wall position, and lifts her chin to project:]

You fall in, lady? [The chunky whale tail protruding from her lower back could do some damage if slammed hard enough against the door, but she's never been one to throw herself into the fray for the sake of saving someone else.]

[ oh no. even more embarrassing than her marked skin is the idea of having been heard shrieking like a lunatic. tingyun groans, rubbing her face with both hands, her cheeks burning with humiliation, regret swinging like a pendulum over her head. maybe she can just stay inside for the rest of her existence here..

.. no, that won't do, especially not now, when she's earned the attention of someone else.

the door cracks open, and tingyun's green eyes peer through the gap, trying to hide as much of her face as possible, but the red markings still show, despite her attempts. she bites her lip. ]

Ah, I'm so sorry friend, I hadn't meant to startle you.. I'm, um, I'm okay.

[Having not met Tingyun before, Odette could be forgiven for thinking those fluffy ears are a new acquisition, just like what everyone else seems to be going through.

The markings are another thing entirely, so they draw more of her interest. Odette is tall and muscular, so while she doesn't force the door to stay ajar, she does lean her weight against the frame, a "suggestion" that it stays open long enough to continue the conversation.]

You've gotta be in shock if you think I look startled. What's up? You cut yourself?

No, I.. um..

[ it isn't obvious? she looks hideous!! how can odette even bear to look at her!! tingyun straightens up a little and pulls the door open a little wider. she's only wearing a sleeveless top and sleeping shorts, so it soon becomes obvious that these markings are all over her body. ]

These.. these red spots. They're all over me..

[Of course it was obvious: She would have been blind not to notice the markings and think they were anything else. But it got Tingyun to open the door, didn't it? To say nothing of her literally getting her foot in the door. When Odette gives her a cocky smirk, her longer-than-normal teeth bare themselves like a row of needless. Unless she's been watching from afar, though, Tingyun probably has no way of knowing that Odette's mouth is full of daggers at any given moment.]

No shit. Thought it came as a package deal with the ears and - [her gaze slides just slightly backwards.] tails. [If this is some sort of mythological beast look, then how concerned she should be probably depends on where this girl is from, doesn't it?]

It ain't like I'm normally sporting flippers, either.

[ Lyney is very quickly learning that perhaps it's best to not eat anything freely offered in this hotel. Which might makes things difficult in the very near future, but for now he'll be setting down the animal cookie he'd picked up and leaning over in his seat to look at the fox nearby. ]

Is this a common problem for you, Miss?

[ a big fox sigh. ]

Well, it's only happened twice in my life, but that's still pretty weird, right? Especially since the last time was a few weeks ago.

[ she should have been ready for this sort of thing, knowing full well how things work around here, but there's little enough to be done for it now. time to roll with it as best as she can. tingyun sits, her front paws neat in front of her. ]

Oh well.. I suppose it has to wear off eventually..

Twice is a lot for such a unique occurrence. I sincerely hope such a pattern doesn't follow an innocent woman like yourself.

[ And since it's quite impolite to look down at someone while speaking to them, he steps off his chair and squats down neatly in front of her. ]

Would you like some assistance in returning to your snack? Now that you're already a fox, they probably can't do much else to you, can they?

Well, I suppose you're probably right.. they can't make me any more fox than I already am, right?

[ fox squared?? foxception?? anyway, she looks up at the table, a little forlorn, and sighs. she would like to finish her dessert, if possible.. ]

[ The expression she makes up at the table, sad as it is, still gets him to smile with how cute it is. What heartless soul could leave her like this! Not Lyney, for sure. He flips over his hat, offering the empty vessel for her to hop into. ]
